The Honorable John Crews

John Crews serves as Chairman and a member of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board. He brings extensive experience in federal financial policy, regulation, and financial institutions. Prior to joining the NCUA, Crews served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he oversaw the Office of Financial Institutions Policy and the Federal Insurance Office. In that role, he helped lead Treasury’s efforts to modernize the regulatory framework for depository institutions, including credit unions.    

During the first Trump Administration, Crews served at the National Economic Council in the White House as the Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy. His tenure included the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic disruption.  He contributed to the drafting of Title I and Title IV of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) and the Trump Administration’s subsequent implementation of Titles I, II, and IV of the CARES Act. That work provided him with broad insight into financial stability and the resilience of financial institutions during periods of significant economic stress.  

Crews also brings significant experience on Capitol Hill, having served in senior policy roles in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. He holds a bachelor’s degree in politics from Princeton University.
